Supporting Good Causes

GVC, both directly and through the GVC Global Foundation, supports a variety of good causes and charitable endeavours. These include investment into grassrooots sport through our Pitching In initiative, our support of a range of charity projects and our funding of research, education and treatment (RET) into the area of problem gambling.

Research, Education & Treatment (RET)

GVC is committed into investing into RET areas in order to minimise any harm caused by problem gambling behaviours.  The Group led the industry in committing to ten-fold in crease in funding to 1% of UK GGR by 2022 – equivalent to around £20 million annually. Below are a number of the key initiative which we support. 

Division on Addiction, Cambridge Health alliance, Harvard Medical School

GVC is investing $5.5 million in a  5-year, research project with the Division on Addiction at Cambridge Health Alliance, a Harvard Medical School teaching hospital. The objective of the project is to better increase our understanding  problem gambling, and thereby find ways to prevent its development where possible and find more effective approaches to treatment.

GamCare

GVC partnership with GamCare enables them to deliver their education and prevention programme nationwide. The project focuses on raising awareness among young people and professionals working with young people about the problems associated with gambling and the markers of harm.

YGAM (Young Gamers and Gamblers Education Trust)

GVC supports, YGAM, the national charity with a social purpose to inform, educate and safeguard young and vulnerable people, helping them build resilience and understand the potential harms caused by gambling and gaming. In 2020 GVC funded the development of YGAM’s  Parent Hub, a new portal providing information, activities and support to help parents and carers understand the potential risks associated with gambling, as wel as separate education programmes for schools and universities.

Gordon Moody Association

The Gordon Moody Association  provides advice, education and high quality innovative therapeutic support to problem gamblers and those affected by gambling, through residential, online and outreach services. residential programme. GVC provides funding to Gordon Moody for the provision of these services.

Leon House Residential Rehabilitation Clinic

GVC funds Leon House Residential Rehabilitation Clinic treats a wide range of psychological disorders and addictions. Their renowned team of doctors, psychiatrists and counsellors provide specialist care and support in complete privacy, identifying and treating the underlying causes that lead to mental health issues and addiction.

GambleAware

GambleAware is an independent, grant-making charity commissioning prevention and treatment services across England, Scotland and Wales in partnership with expert organisations and agencies, including the NHS, across three areas: Commissioning the National Gambling Treatment Service. 

Gamban

GVC offers Gamban software free of charge to any individual who exhibits  signs of developing problem gambling behaviour. The Gamban software  enables players to block access to all gambling sites in the UK via a single portal.

Safer Online Gaming Group

GVC supports the the Safer Online Gambling Group (SOGG), which  was established at the beginning of 2019 after five years of tireless campaigning by father and son team David and Adam Bradford. David, a recovering online gambling addict himself,  established the group to raise awareness of the addiction and encourage the industry to take gambling problems more seriously.

NCPG (US National Council on Problem Gambling)

GVC is a member of the NCPG’s President’s Circle and has helped to fund a major new study into the prevalence of gambling in the US and the potential problems associated with it. GVC has a long-term commitment with the NPGC, which is the world’s longest established NGO dedicated to addressing issues surrounding problem gambling.

EPIC Risk Management

GVC engages the services or EPIC Risk Management, the leading safer gambling consultancy on range of responsible gambling based initiatives. These include; an education programme in UK schools; sports integrity and harm minimisation in the US; responsible gaming and integrity training for  professional sports; and training for colleagues throughout our retail betting shops.

Seton Hall Law School

Seton Hall Law, a leading US law school and recognised leader in compliance education, and GVC’s US Foundation have launched a new  programme at the School based on  Gaming, Compliance, and Integrity Program. The first output of the collaboration was  a three-day Bootcamp in March 2020 which will provided attendees with a primer on the laws, regulations, and best practices that are the backdrop to compliance rules that govern gaming industry.

Pitching In and Contributing to Sport

Our business is closely aligned with sport at all levels and in recognition of this we are committed to fund its development. In September 2020 we launched a major new multi-million-pound investment programme designed to support and promote grassroots sports. The programme launched at a time when sports clubs and organisations are faced the unprecedented impact on their finances of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Pitching In Trident Leagues

The Pitching In Investment Fund was kicked-off  with a flagship partnership with The Isthmian, Northern Premier and Southern Leagues – collectively known as The Trident Leagues – which make-up levels seven and eight of the English football league pyramid. The partnership, which sees each of the leagues take the Pitching In title, will deliver vitally needed financial support, as the leagues seek to cope with the consequences of the COVID-19 lockdown. In addition to financial support, a key focus of the partnership is to facilitate and encourage community volunteers.

SportsAid

Through its multi-year strategic partneship with SportsAid, the charity which supports aspiring athletes, GVC provides supports British athletes with financial support, recognition and personal development opportunities. Each athlete receives an annual award which contributes towards costs such as travel, accommodation and equipment. Through the partnership, GVC is helping 50 up-and-coming sports stars across the country each year. 

Sports Integrity Forum

Together with German Bundesliga clubs Borussia Dortmund and 1. FC Koeln, and the sports integrity platform, the Play Fair Code, the GVC Foundation recently launched the German Sports Integrity Forum. The aim of the Forum is to raise further awareness of sports integrity programmes in Germany and other
German speaking countries.

Professional Players Federation

The Foundation has entered into a partnership with the Professional Players Federation (the “PPF”), the national organisation for the professional player associations in the UK, to fund its anti-matchfixing player education programmes. The partnership enables the PPF to support the development and delivery of online learning and face-to-face education to hundreds of sportspeople in sports  such as football, cricket, rugby union, golf, darts and snooker.

Women’s Football Initiative with Inter Milan

A collaboration with Inter Milan to promote participation in women’s football in Italy. Backed by a national media campaign, partnered with Gazzetta dello Sport, the project is developing a football-related talent show for aspiring female footballers;

The Ladbrokes Coral Trust and Selected Charitable Partners

In addition to our investment in RET and sport, the Group supports a range of independent charities and has established the Ladbrokes Coral Trust.

The Ladbokes Coral Trust (LCT)

The Ladbrokes Coral Trust was first established in 2003 and has  become a successful charitable body. LCT used the Group’s network of retail betting shops to run a variety of fundraising initiatives which  provide funding for UK-registered charities across the three main areas of healthcare, education and community. Since its inception the LCT has raised almost £10 million for good causes across the UK.

Children with Cancer UK

Children with Cancer UK  are the leading national children’s charity dedicated to the fight against childhood cancer. Their mission is to improve  and support children and their families to live better with and after treatment. Children with Cancer is the official charity partner of the Group’s Ladbrokes brand. In 2019 the Group donated the shirt sponsorship rights it held for Charlton Athletic FC and AFC Sunderland to the charity.

Prostate Cancer UK

Prostate Cancer UK’s top priority is funding research to stop prostate cancer killing men. They invest millions to find better treatments and better tests that can spot fast-growing cancers early, and could be used in a screening programme to save thousands of lives. Prostate Cancer UK is the official charity partner of the Group’s Coral brand.

NHS Charities Together

Following the outbreak of COVID-19 GVC launched a number of fundraising initiatives, both corporately and through the individual efforts of our many generous colleagues. As part of this initiative GVC joined with the other leading UK operators to donate all profits from the Virtual Grand National to the UK’s NHS Charities Together. GVC raised £400k with the industry raising  more than £2.9m in total. We followed this effort in June, joining again with the operators to donate all profits from the Britannia Stakes at the Royal Ascot Festival to Prostate Cancer UK. As a result  a further £250k was donated to the charity.

52 Lives

Our Gala Bingo brand  has been a long-term partner of 52 Lives, the kindness charity who’s objective is to changes someone’s life every week of the year and inspire people to be kind. Their mantra is that kindness has the power to change lives and change the world, while improving an individuals well-being at the same time. Over three years Gala has raised over £400k for the charity.

Cancer Relief Gibraltar

The Group supports Cancer Relief Gibraltar, where we gave our operational headquarters. The charity has been providing support to people living with cancer in the Gibraltar community for over 30 years.
